Climbing up the Carmel Ridge

Monday's hike continued with a short ride to Beit Hananiya, and then a steep climb of about 400 feet (it felt like more) to the top of a ridge in the southern part of the Carmel Mountains.  The climb was up a very rocky trail, most of which was at an angle of at least 45 degrees and often more.  After several miles on the sand, our legs were tired - but they were a lot more tired when we finally reached the top!  The pictures below largely speak for themselves.

On the Cross Israel Trail heading up!

A little higher...

Rita, Rose, and Debbie are smiling.   Where is their energy coming from?

Near the top!!

Rita, Bob, Diane, Ron, Rose, and Mike have made it!   Thanks to Asaf for taking the picture!

There is a rotating library at the top.  Leave a book, take a book.  You may have taken several reading breaks on the way up!  This time, Asaf is in the picture, between Rose and Mike.

Here's where we are!
The descent was uneventful.  We went past lots of beautiful things -

At the end of the hike, we were met by the driver of our van at the Ein Tzur Aqueduct.  It is still working!  Those Romans made things to last!

After checking in at our hotel, we had dinner at the nearby Tishbi Wine Shop.  While one might assume that this is near the home town of the prophet Elijah, it is named after the family that founded it.  The wine was excellent - and was matched by the appetizers, salad, pasta, pizza, vegetable dish, and dessert.  After a full day of exercise and a big dinner, everyone slept well!
