Hiking through Jaffa and Tel Aviv - Part 2

After leaving Independence Hall, we continued walking.  We saw two identical houses with an interesting story:  One of the 66 founding fathers of Tel Aviv had two sons.   He chose to build them identical houses, to ensure that he did not follow Judaism's ancient tradition of favored sons (think of Isaac over Ishmael, Jacob over Esau, Joseph over his brothers).

We walked along an area with sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and automobile lanes.   The traffic light was interesting:  not a walking person such is often seen both in Israel and in Cleveland, but this:

We broke for lunch, and had wonderful felafels, salads, humus plates, and other things.   Our trip leader Ron enjoyed some good laughs with the waiter:

We then began a long walk that continued into the next day along the Israel National Trail.  Like our Appalachian Trail and Buckeye trail, it is marked by blazes making it easy to stay on the path.  Today's route was fairly easy; it would get harder as we got into the hills.  Note the three-colored blazes in this picture (on the center of the bridge):

While on the trail, we saw some beautiful birds.   Here are a few who posed for pictures:

We finally got back to our hotel, cleaned up, and went out to dinner.   We found a delightful Vietnamese restaurant which fed us very well!  We tried to figure out if Tel Aviv is closer to Cleveland or to Vietnam; it appears to be about halfway in between!

Everyone slept well on Sunday night!
